I watch a fair share of movies, I just don’t review them all. I figure everyone else is handling that, but, well, for the sake of the slacks…
ALIEN: ROMULUS
A refried re-hash of the rest of the films in the main series that just works. It has a great lead performance, a crackling pace, and enough new ideas to re-light a dimming fire. Very scary. Very fun. Great last act with a heck of a reveal. The nods to the past can get very heavy-handed but if they move forward from here and take more risks then this just served as the re-invention the series needed.

REBEL MOON – Part One: A Child of Fire
Overblown with a ridiculous amount of lens flares, it is far from Snyder’s STAR WARS but is a darn fun adult alternative. Gory, brash, and loud, it’s a fun ride, though not one that will be remembered as fondly as the movies it apes. Well worth a look and the ‘director’s cut’ is better than the original and shows how silly it was to cut them in the first place.

LONGLEGS
Creepy to the nines but it never quite lives up to the premise or the promotion. It needed more explanation and more investigation. It’s dripping with the atmosphere, well-made, and worth a look. it’s a film that will grow in esteem over time. I have my quibbles but it’s a good movie.

DESPICABLE ME 4
Hey, if it works, don’t change it. It’s pure silliness with a big heart and if you enjoy the series, you’ll love it. If you don’t then this certainly will not win you over. I had zero expectations and really dug it. So did my daughter. So there’s that.

GODZILLA x KONG : The New Empire
I love that we get these movies. I love that they are big, bombastic, and weird. It’s not great, but it’s solid, and it’s very fun. Not sure how much more they can do with these two but I am in.

GHOSTBUSTERS : Frozen Empire
I grew up ‘bustin, and I felt good! I dig the new movies, yes, ALL of them. This is a fun movie. Solid story that surprised me (the trailers didn’t actually give it all away!), good acting, and just a fun time. Sure, it’s not the classic first film, but as long as they make movies better than the second, I am in!
