Crochet Pattern Book Cover for “A Shadow on the Violets”

A handful of years ago I had been approached about whether I knew someone who might be interested in writing a “Cozy Mystery.” A cozy mystery is a mystery story that doesn’t feature strong violence, harsh language, or explicit sex. I had never written something like that, and certainly didn’t know anyone who might be interested in writing it, so I said I’d take a crack at it.

I have told the story before, but this was how my book “A Shadow on the Violets” came about. It was written over the month of November, in about three and a half weeks, due to the deadline. Going in I had NO idea what I’d end up with. The publisher fell through, then another fell through, and I took the book back and had my own cover done, changed the name of the book, and it is what it is today.

I really love the book, and have thought about writing a sequel, but it’s hard to want to make time for it when there’s never been a big interest in it so far.

STILL…the cover is magificent.

A talented artist named Zophael created the cover for me, crocheting it and then giving me the pattern to put in the book so folks could make it as well, if they wished. I wasn’t sure how to do that, and have it be of value to the artist or public, since it couldn’t be in color, or full size. I am not sure anyone would care for a pattern to recreate the cover BUT, it’s a heck of a great image, and the pattern is great.

Here is the book cover pattern, by artist Zophael.

And here’s a link to my book, if you are intersted in learning more.
